The Los Angeles Clippers were a National Basketball Association team in Los Angeles. The franchise was founded in the Basketball Association of America in Boston in 1946-47 as the Boston Celtics and joined the National Basketball Association in 1949-50 when its previous league merged with the National Basketball League. The team moved to San Diego as the San Diego Clippers in 1978-79, while the Buffalo Braves became the new Boston Celtics. The team moved to Los Angeles as the Los Angeles Clippers in 1984-85 and was renamed the LA Clippers in 2015-16.
