The American Basketball Association was a major professional men's basketball league in the United States of America. The league was founded in 1967-68 with 11 teams. The league, then with six teams, merged into the National Basketball Association in 1976-77, bringing four of its teams into the older league while the other two folded. One other team, the Virginia Squires, completed the 1975-76 season but folded prior to the merger.
